Upcoming Trip: Cambodia

When people think of Cambodia they think of a grief stricken war torn nation in eastern Asia crippled by genocide, and plagued with child sexual exploitation.  But when Jesus looks down upon the little nation of Cambodia, nestled between Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, He sees a nation ripe for harvest. Jesus see a nation desperate for the Hope of the Kingdom—and it is indeed being released.

On August 18th the BURN 24-7 is sending a team of four, lovesick worshiper to partner and serve alongside our long term worker Stephanie Wheeler. For two weeks the five of us will be traveling through four cities in Cambodia releasing the fragrance of Christ and songs of life. Our team will be teaching a week at a Youth With A Mission Discipleship Training School on worship and prayer. We will be praying over Angkor Wat–the largest religious building and Buddhist temple in the world, loving on the poor in slums, praying for AIDS victims, ministering to young girls and boys brought out of sex trafficking, and of course spend hours BURNING through the night as we joining in with the sound of Cambodia in the heavenlies preparing a way for the King.

Please be praying for our team from August 18th to September 2nd as we travel. Pray for divine health and safety. Pray the Lord would grant us boldness to step out of ourselves and be the hands and feet of Christ. And most of all—pray that the Lord would be glorified, the Word would run swiftly, and that the Spirit would have his way in the hearts of men, women, and children.

Using Time Wisely

If you are a “typical America”–if there is such a thing–you might pride yourself in being busy. Between work, more meetings, church, soccer practice, emails, text messages, constant phone call, and catching a flight to Phoenix for a lunch meeting to be back in time for dinner makes for a demanding, busy, and tiresome life that for some reason we pride ourselves in. Although it may hurt my pride to admit it–I too am a typical America.

I like to be busy. Being busy should make me feel productive–and yet at the end of the day no matter how much running around I did I still feel like I didn’t do enough. At the young age of 25 I am starting to learn that being busy and being productive are two different thing.

In Colossians 4:2, Paul writes,”Continue steadfastly in prayer.” Paul then continues in Colossians 4:5 saying, “conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.” Even though these two verses are separated by different thoughts that are not directly being connected here in the scripture, I can’t help but wonder if Paul is subtly connecting “steadfast prayer” with “best use of time.”

The prophet Isaiah prayed to God in Isaiah 64:4 “From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him.” The prophet directly correlates waiting on God with God acting upon our behalf–and if God can create the universe in six days I think that he is just a little bit more productive that we are.

If you are feeling over whelmed by your week, or your life for that matter, try setting aside more time to pray and to wait in the presence of Jesus for Him to act upon your behalf. Test it out for three weeks and see if waiting on God for 30 minutes extra each morning really does help with the rest of your day.

Grace and Peace to you.
